Indications

TIA (Transient Ischaemic Attack), reversible ischaemic neurological deficiency, progressive stroke, completed stroke, post-apoplectic conditions, multiinfarct dementia, cerebral arteriosclerosis, post-traumatic, hypertensive encephalopathy, and so on are all examples of acute and chronic cerebral circulatory insufficiency.

For the relief of cerebral insufficiency's psychological or neurological symptoms (e.g., memory disturbances, dizziness, headache, aphasia, apraxia, locomotor disorders etc.).

Ophthalmology: It can be used to treat vascular diseases of the choroid and retina caused by arteriosclerosis, vasospasm, macular degeneration, arterial or venous thrombosis or embolism, and secondary glaucoma.

Otology: Used to treat vascular or toxic (iatrogenic) hearing loss, presbyacusis, Meniere's illness, cochleovestibular neuritis, tinnitus, and labyrinthine dizziness. For the treatment of climacteric syndrome's vasovegetative symptoms.

Pharmacology

Vinpocetine improves cerebral hypoxia tolerance by increasing cerebral metabolism, increasing glucose metabolism to the energetically more favorable aerobic pathway while also increasing the anaerobic pathway, increasing ATP concentration and ATP/AMP ratio in the brain, and elevating cerebral norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin levels.

Vinpocetine improves cerebral microcirculation significantly by suppressing platelet aggregation, decreasing pathologically elevated blood viscosity, and increasing erythrocyte deformability. It also increases O2 delivery into tissues by lowering erythrocyte O2 affinity.

It improves cerebral blood flow and the brain's portion of cardiac output while lowering cerebral vascular resistance without altering systemic circulation (blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac output, total peripheral resistance). It does not cause the steal phenomenon; rather, it increases the blood supply to the damaged and ischemic regions while leaving the intact parts unaltered (inverse steal effect). It raises blood flow even more, which is already elevated due to hypoxia.

Interaction

Those who added Vinpocetine to their Warfarin dosage noticed a little alteration in prothrombin time. The modifications appear to be minor. So yet, no additional interactions have been recorded. As a result, it may be used in a variety of ways.

Contraindications

Vinpocetine should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It's also not recommended if you're allergic to any of the ingredients.
