Generics:Iron Polymaltose Complex 50/5mg/ml
Iron Polymaltose Complex
The use of Iron Polymaltose Complex is recommended for the following conditions:
Iron Polymaltose Complex is a polysaccharide-iron complex that is a new iron preparation for the treatment of anemia caused by iron deficiency. The production of haemoglobin and the oxidative process of living tissue both require iron, which is a vital component of the body. This product contains a stable combination of non-ionic ferric iron and polymaltose. When ferric iron comes into contact with the mucosal cell surface, this allows for regulated absorption. Because it is non-ionic, it does not produce free radicals and so eliminates all of the hazardous side effects associated with typical ionized iron salt preparations.
Dosage and duration of therapy are dependent upon the extent of iron deficiency and should be taken as directed by the physician.
No interactions have been detected in general. Ionic interactions with foodstuff components (phytates, oxalates, tannin, etc.) and concurrently supplied medicaments (tetracycline, antacids) are rare since iron is complex bound..
This medication is well tolerated by most people. Oral iron preparations may cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhoea, among other side effects.
Drug administration during the first trimester of pregnancy necessitates a careful evaluation of the potential risks versus the advantages to be achieved, and should only be done if clearly recommended. Iron therapy may be recommended for the remainder of the pregnancy, but only on the recommendation of a physician. Although iron is excreted in breast milk, it is not in clinically significant amounts.
After apparent recovery, epigastric discomfort, diarrhea, and vomiting may occur, as well as metabolic acidosis, seizures, and coma. The removal of excess iron from the alimentary canal before to absorption is dependent on speed for efficient therapy. An emetic should be administered first, followed by gastric lavage with 1 percent sodium bicarbonate and oral desferrioxamine administration to complex with residue.
