Salicylic Acid + Lactic Acid

Indications

This is a topical solution used to treat warts, corns, and calluses.

Patients' Information

  • Warts: A wart is a viral infection of the skin's superficial layers. Incubation times range from a few weeks to several months. Warts can spread to injured skin by direct contact with a wart.
  • Corns are tiny, hardened areas of skin that frequently seem yellow in comparison to the surrounding skin. It is usually spherical or cone-shaped and points downward into the skin. Corns are most commonly found on the feet, but can also appear on the hands, and are generated by persistent or repetitive friction or pressure.
  • Calluses are rough, thickened patches of skin that cover a large region. Calluses are similar to corns in that they are created by persistent or repetitive friction or pressure, but unlike corns, they are flat and have typical skin lines.

Pharmacology

Salicylic acid is a popular and efficient keratolytic; it causes desquamation and loss of the epithelium by dissolving the Stratum Corneum's intercellular cement. Lactic acid influences the keratinisation process, decreasing hyperkeratosis, and is also caustic, causing hyperkeratotic tissue to be destroyed. Collodion is created by combining cellulose with ethanol and ether in a base. It enables simple and accurate product application and dries to leave a layer that hydrates the tissue and improves active ingredient penetration.
