Generics:Clarithromycin 500mg
Streptococcal pharyngitis is treated with clarithromycin.
Clarithromycin works by binding to the donor site on the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and preventing translocation to that site, which inhibits microsomal protein synthesis in susceptible organisms. Most Gram-positive bacteria and Chlamydia, as well as some Gram-negative bacteria and Mycoplasmas, are susceptible to clarithromycin.
Adults: Take 250 mg every 12 hours for 10 days if you have pharyngitis or tonsillitis.
Clarithromycin and Theophylline: Taking Clarithromycin and Theophylline at the same time may cause an increase in serum Theophylline levels. Terfenadine: Clarithromycin may affect Terfenadine metabolism.
Clarithromycin, Erythromycin, or any of the macrolide antibiotics cause hypersensitivity. Patients with pre-existing cardiac abnormalities or electrolyte disturbances who are receiving Terfenadine.
Clarithromycin is well tolerated by most people. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain are some of the side effects. There have also been reports of stomatitis and glossitis. Headaches and allergic reactions ranging from urticaria and mild skin reactions to anaphylaxis are among the other side effects. It's possible that you'll develop a taste aversion.
In appropriate doses, the drug can be used in neonates and children. Infants should not be given breast milk from mothers who are taking Clarithromycin until their treatment is finished. Clarithromycin is not recommended because there is currently little experience with the treatment of pregnant patients.
The liver and kidneys are the main excretion organs for clarithromycin. Patients with impaired hepatic and renal function should be given this antibiotic with caution. The use of Clarithromycin for an extended period of time or on a regular basis can lead to an overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria or fungi. If a superinfection develops, Clarithromycin should be stopped and appropriate treatment started.
