Navacef 500mg Capsule is indicated for the treatment of the following infections: Otitis media, Infections of the lower respiratory tract, including pneumonia, bronchitis and exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, Infections of the upper respiratory tract, including pharyngitis and tonsillitis, Infections of the urinary tract, including pyelonephritis and cystitis, Skin and soft tissue infections, sinusitis
Cefaclor is a second generation cephalosporin antibiotic that is stable against blactamase inactivation and has a broad spectrum of activity. Cefaclor has in vitro activity against the following organisms: alpha and beta hemolytic streptococci, staphylococci; including coagulase-positive, coagulase-negative and penicillinase-producing strains, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes (group A hemolytic streptococcus), Branhamella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species Haemophilus influillenzae, including tube-resistant strains injection. Cefaclor is generally effective in eradicating streptococci from the nasopharynx.

The nephrotoxicity of aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin and tobramycin can be enhanced by any cephalosporin. Therefore, care should be taken when these drugs are used concomitantly.
Cefaclor is contraindicated in patients allergic to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics.
Digestive System: Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting have been reported.
Hypersensitivity: Allergic reactions such as rash, pruritus and hives have been observed. These reactions usually go away when treatment is stopped. A serum sickness-like reaction has been reported.
Hematologic: Eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, transient lymphocytosis and leukopenia may occur in rare cases.
Hepatic: Transient hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice, with slight increases in AST, ALT or alkaline phosphate values have been reported rarely.
Renal: Reversible interstitial nephritis is rare, with a slight increase in blood urea or serum creatinine or an abnormal urinalysis.
Central nervous system: Reversible hyperactivity, nervousness, confusion, asthenia, dizziness, hallucinations and drowsiness have been reported rarely.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. This medicine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Small amounts of Cefaclor have been detected in breast milk. Effects on breastfed infants are not known. Caution should be exercised when administering Cefaclor to a nursing woman.
Cefaclor should be used with caution in patients with marked renal impairment. No dosage adjustment is usually necessary in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment.
